The Saskatchewan Pharmacy Museum Society (S.P.M.S.) is a not-for-profit organization which has a volunteer membership and uses volunteer manpower. Funding is based on a volunteer yearly membership fee, which has been augmented by a silent auction at the PAS annual conference.

The S.P.M.S. has been collecting and preserving pharmacy artifacts and archival material for more than 25 years. Thanks to many pharmacists in retail and hospital settings, the organization has accumulated an impressive collection of artifacts, which speak to our profession's proud past. In particular, Trevor Quinn and the late Carrol Chlopan were instrumental in establishing the Saskatchewan Pharmacy Museum Society in the mid-1980's.

Donated metal shelving has been collected from various pharmacies and other retail shops and has been transported and installed by volunteers to provide safe and adequate storage for the collection. Volunteers, led by Gladys Foster, have cleaned the items and placed them in acid-free containers following consultation with Saskatchewan museum experts.

Every year the annual silent auction gets bigger and better. In years past, the auction generated around $800 towards the upkeep of the museum, and at the 2010 conference, approximately $3200 was collected.

S.P.M.S. is now at the stage of properly cataloguing and documenting the artifacts so they will be ready for display when a museum facility is established. A refurbished computer has been donated by the SaskTel Pioneers, on which a cataloguing program has been installed. By completing the cataloguing and inventory of the collected items, the museum will be able to preserve the heritage of Pharmacy in Saskatchewan and build a shared public memory for future generations. Once public access museum space becomes available, S.P.M.S. will be able to set up permanent displays as well as temporary displays, for conventions and trade shows.
